Opening Day is March 19th

Opening Day is Saturday March 19th!

This is an exciting day for our league and we are thrilled to be able to celebrate with each of you. Opening day will begin with a parade from Vallecito Elementary School to Mary E Silveira School to kick off the season with a spectacular event for the players, their families, and our entire community. This is a great opportunity to come together and bond with new teammates and coaches…and to showcase your team pride with some fun float decorating and competition: Best in Division. Most teams use a pick-up truck or trailer (a towed utility trailer is OK if it has enclosed sides, no flatbed vehicles please). It’s all up to the team, what they can acquire for the day and their imagination. Involve the kids in participating and decorating as much as possible. In the past some teams have planned to meet the night before the parade for a pizza party to decorate their float/truck. This is up to the team parents and manager/coaches to decide. Check out pictures from previous years on our website. The parade ends with an Opening Day Ceremony followed by the Upper Division games.

PARADE DETAILS:

The parade will begin at 8:45am. We ask that all trucks/floats arrive at Vallecito Elementary School by 8am (50 Nova Albion Way, San Rafael). That will give each team time to put the finishing touches on their truck/float. Parents are welcome to join in the pre-parade activities but no cars will be permitted in the Vallecito parking lots. These are reserved for the team parade trucks only! Please park on the surrounding surface streets to avoid unnecessary traffic. (Carpooling encouraged!) Please remind the players -- No throwing of any objects from the trucks! An adult must ride with the team in the float please.

CEREMONY DETAILS:

After the parade the Opening Day Ceremony will take place in the outfield at Mary E. Silveira MS1. Teams and parents will enter the MS1 field through the outfield gate along the 3rd base side and will be instructed where to sit for the ceremony. The ceremony will begin at about 10:15am and last for approximately 45 minutes. After the ceremony, Upper Division games will be played at 12pm on MS1 & MS2. Stay to cheer on the teams and partake in buying snacks and drinks at our Snack Bar.
